Where would you go if you only had 6 hours in Charleston? That was our dilemma as we made our way down the East Coast (the reason why will be revealed in my next few posts!) This short stop-over was a chance to relive my ultimate favorite spots in Charleston, and here are the places that came out on top.

Darling Oyster Bar
Charleston’s King Street is always bustling and so is the Darling Oyster Bar — a gem of a seafood restaurant that is always short on reservations. I recommend walking in right when they open if you weren’t able to snag a spot on opentable. Once there, try some of their ever-changing oyster selection and something with grits on the side (so buttery and creamy). For maximum Insta points, order the Captain bloody mary (above), which comes with a crab leg, lobster claw, hush puppy, shrimp, and celery all in a bloody good cocktail.
Jeni’s Ice Cream
I always have room for dessert, so we walked down King Street (great for people watching) to Jeni’s, a Columbus ice creamery that has outposts in various cities. They even sell their distinctive pints in Whole Foods. I ordered a trio of ice cream scoops, including my favorite Brambleberry Crisp, and continued our stroll.
Rainbow Row
What’s a visit to Charleston without snapping a photo in front of its famous rainbow houses? This set of ~10 houses are easy to find along the waterfront: just look for the massive line of people with their cameras out. However, in our case, we went at a very opportune time when it was too hot outside for most other tourists. I’ve never been able to snag a pic on Rainbow row without anyone else in sight!
Next time I stop in Charleston, I definitely will be back for more than a few hours!
